We are pleased to announce that Cartesi is partnering with Gitcoin to launch a matching grant round with $20k in prizes! This is the finale of Cartesi’s DApp incubation program that began last fall. In that round, the top three development teams were selected to get mentorship and earn $20k each (after hitting predetermined milestones) for building with Cartesi’s Descartes SDK. Beginning today, the three winning teams will show off their hard work over the previous months, and accept donations from the community to decide how the $20k pool gets distributed using Quadratic Funding. If you’re new to Quadratic Funding, check out Vitalik’s Retro of a previous round. The number of unique donors matters more than the amount donated, so even a $1 donation can yield a $100+ match!

About Cartesi

Cartesi is taking smart contracts to the next level, solving two urgent problems blockchains face — scalability and high fees. It does this by implementing a variant of optimistic roll-ups. The Cartesi platform is revolutionizing smart contract programming by allowing developers to code with mainstream software stacks instead of Solidity. Also, Cartesi features a sidechain implementation optimized for ephemeral data, providing low-cost data availability to DApps.

Cartesi is now working on implementing Cartesi Rollups for Descartes. For more information, please visit their updated roadmap here.

Descartes

The three incubation teams are building on Cartesi’s Descartes SDK. Descartes is a decentralized computational oracle for Ethereum.

Descartes executes massive computational tasks off-chain, on a Linux virtual machine fully specified by a smart contract.

The results of the computations are fully verifiable and enforceable on-chain by honest Descartes node runners, preserving the strong security guarantees of Ethereum.

The Three Projects

View all 3 projects and donate directly from the Cartesi Grants page! Here is the lineup:

Creol: Creol Environments is an IoT commercial building control system that automatically implements carbon offsets in realtime, rendering the control system carbon-neutral. Creol is implementing Cartesi into their IoT devices to ensure that building stats measurements and computations are verifiable and securely inserted on Ethereum. Integrating Cartesi with their hardware is rendering their IoT system more resilient and fraud-proof. Donate to Creol here!

SimThunder: is working to make simracing more fun and realistic. SimThunder is using Cartesi to ensure that transactions in their NFT marketplace are private, without sacrificing verifiable proof of ownership. Donate to SimThunder here!

Carti: is an infrastructure project that aims to bring packaging technology to life on Cartesi. The objective is to allow developers to have programmatic access to retrieve Cartesi Machines, leading to a better development experience. Donate to Carti here!

Open Source Partnership

At Gitcoin, we are excited to partner with Cartesi to promote DApp development using their Descartes technology. We highly value open source projects like Cartesi, that help improve blockchain infrastructure efficiency and ease of use. For more information on the grant round and to donate, please visit the Cartesi Grants page.

If you’re interested in partnering with Gitcoin to run a Grant Round in the future, or pledge a donation to the matching pool to support public goods, let us know here
